Baja Sea Kayaking  (8 days)

The Baja Peninsula is a land of dramatic contrasts, with cactus-filled deserts and towering mountains meeting a rich marine environment along hundreds of miles of coastline. The Peninsula is bordered on its East coast by the gentle Gulf of California (also known as Sea of Cortez) and the wild Pacific Ocean pounds its west coast.

This desert wilderness is one of the best winter adventure destinations in North America and has won numerous awards and accolades from the travel industry. In addition to the warm sunny weather and awe inspiring scenery, Baja is world-renowned for close encounters with gray and blue whales. Our sea kayaking trips are an exceptional way to experience the stunning natural wonder and beauty of this environment.

The stable and easy to paddle sea kayaks are the perfect vehicle for exploration of the pristine waters of the Baja and no previous paddling experience is requires. This trip is perfect for individual and families with all equipment and instruction provided.

Our days will be spent sea kayaking, exploring desert islands, and snorkeling in the refreshing blue water while dolphins, whales, frisky sea lions and colorful fish play in the clear, warm water. Evenings will be spent relaxing in comfort at our shore side camps under a star studded sky.

Loreto:
All trips begin and end here, Loreto is located 700 miles south of the USA/Mexico border, on the Sea of Cortez. When the Spanish explorers first arrived in 1533, the area was scarcely populated by the Pericu Indians, who gathered fruit, fish and hunted. Loreto was eventually the first European settlement in all of Baja California and Alta California (the current USA state of California). It was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries and is the site of the first of all the California missions. Despite periodic hurricanes, the mission cathedral in downtown Loreto built in 1697 is still standing, well cared for, well loved, and well used to the present day. Considered the head and mother of all the missions in Baja California, it was from here that missionaries set out to build their vast network of missions eventually extending all the way to northern California in what is now the USA. In addition to Loreto's rich historical and cultural history, the town's scenery is spectacularly sandwiched by the Sea of Cortez on one side and the rugged Sierra de la Giganta on the other, rising steeply up out of the sea in phenomenal fashion.

Loreto Bay National Marine Park:
The National Marine Park of Loreto Bay (Bahia de Loreto Parque Nacional) was established in 1996. The park encompasses 2,065 square kilometers including, numerous uninhabited islands and the pristine Sea of Cortez just off the shore of the seaside town of Loreto. Conservation organizations including The Nature Conservancy and The Grupo Ecologista Antares, are working with the park system to: scientifically catalog the area, to protect the resources, and to educate people about this unique environment. Blue, fin, humpback and other whales, dolphins, sea lions and numerous species of fish and sea life thrive in the park
